Bricolage Urbain's second public event was a map-making workshop with Mile End residents at Articule. Participants added interesting, fun, memorable, important and troublesome points to large scale maps. Everything from the best ice-cream shops to lane ways for wild flower picking were put "on the map".

I have been working with a wonderful group of women in an urban collective called Bricolage Urbain. We just held our first series of events, in collaboration with the gallery Articule and a host of other interesting artists, activists and educators in the Mile End. Since we don't have a website set up yet, I thought I would post photos here.

In September, we presented a discussion evening at the gallery on the topic of social mapping.

In celebration of Fern (cat extraordinaire/teddy bear) coming to stay with me this week, I thought I would share the ilove.cat website, which features interviews with cat owners, snapshots of cats and articles on all things Japanese and cat-related. In particular, I would recommend the Animal Photographer Mitsuaki Iwago Discusses 'How to Photograph Cats' article.

A direct quote from the article:

"Listen closely, watch closely and take a deep sniff. This will help you develop a 'cat's sense'. If you are using your full five senses as you walk around, the instant you turn into an alley you will either smell a cat or know where to look for one. In doing this, you are not really using your human eyes - you're employing your 'cat's eyes'."

My work is going to be featured in Work/Life 2, published by UPPERCASE Gallery. The book features 100 international illustrators - I think it will maybe be available at Drawn+Quarterly here in Montreal. It should be out this month!
I have prints of illustrations! Soon to be up on my sad and neglected little etsy shop.
Next month I will be guest blogging at Sadie Designs. Sarah, blog author and jewelry artisan, makes some pretty great stuff and I am flattered she invited me over.

Arizona Dream

Since I have been disgustingly sick for the past ten days, I have been watching a lot of movies. There have been some pretty exceptional ones, but I think Arizona Dream (1993), directed by Emir Kusturica, is the best. This is the kind of film I wish I could make, I think it's perfect. I originally decided to watch it because it starred Johnny Depp, but Lili Taylor almost stole the show. Arizona Dream is an apt title - the whole thing is like a bunch of my dreams combined.

i am a little wary of doing fashion posts on my blog. i love fashion and all, but i try to make it a pretty small part of my life. however, i am into posting about great crafters who make fashionable stuff. i got these earrings from dinosaur toes and i love them. they are perfectly made and involve porcupine quills. it doesn't get much better than that.

i've been pretty scared to knit socks. i don't know why, i guess it's those tiny little double-pointed needles and that super fine wool... seems like a recipe for teensy-tiny-hard-to-pull-out knots. but somebody gave me a kit to knit yoga socks for christmas so i am doing it. so far, it is actually turning out pretty well...
